Why are Visa, Mastercard and PayPal ready to integrate crypto payments?

Why are Visa, Mastercard and PayPal ready to integrate crypto payments?
In the past few months, payment giants Visa, Mastercard and PayPal have radically changed their attitude towards cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology, announcing their intention to integrate crypto payments into their systems. It is about the process of global adoption of crypto-innovation in the world of traditional finance.

Visa experience

On March 16, 2018, Visa CFO Vasant Prabhu criticized cryptocurrencies, including bitcoin, stressing that these assets are a bubble. Then Bitcoin was worth $8,300.
On July 22 of this year, when the first cryptocurrency rose to $9,360, a message appeared on the official Visa blog with a completely different message entitled “Developing our approach to digital currency.” In this post, the company revealed that its partnership with two regulated crypto platforms, Coinbase and Fold, is part of a corporate strategy to integrate digital currencies into its payment system, reaching 61 million retailers. In its message, the company highlighted the importance of stablecoins, which “have stepped outside the fintech sphere,” and now include a number of financial institutions and central banks in their ecosystem.
From the message of the payment giant it became known that “more than 25 digital wallets have linked their services to Visa.” Visa also noted that these 25 crypto service providers will be able to leverage the payment giant’s full range of capabilities, including the Visa Direct option and the FastTrack platform. It is worth noting that the corporation also supported financially the company Anchorage, which is studying the issues of cybersecurity of cryptocurrency ecosystems. Visa says the company’s main goal is “to continue to do what we do best: develop our system, supporting new forms of commerce.”
On July 28, at a meeting with investors, in which Vasant Prabhu took part, it was said in detail that Visa sees great potential for its own development in the growing popularity of e-commerce and digital payments. It was also mentioned about the corporate payment system Visa B2B Connect, which is designed to perform international financial transfers without the help of the usually slow correspondent banking network.

Mastercard experience

A similar evolution is taking place before our eyes with Visa’s competitor — Mastercard payment system.
So, on July 26, 2018, the CEO of Mastercard, Ajay Banga, compared cryptocurrencies to things that are thrown into the trash. However, two years later, the payment corporation has largely changed its approach to cryptocurrencies. On July 20, it became known that Mastercard has signed an agreement with the Wirex cryptocurrency company. This financial startup allows you to buy and sell cryptocurrencies for fiat money. Since last month, Wirex has become a member of the Mastercard ecosystem with the right to independently issue cards from this payment giant. We will remind that earlier, in February of this year, a similar decision was made by the Visa corporation in relation to the Coinbase crypto exchange.
Moreover, Mastercard intends to launch a special program to support other crypto companies. As Raj Damodaran, Executive Vice President of Digital Assets, Blockchain Products and Partnerships, Mastercard explained, “The crypto market continues to evolve, and the corporation is helping to advance it by providing reliable and secure services for individuals and companies in the modern digital economy.

PayPal experience

Another payment giant, PayPal, has long been silent about any intention to integrate cryptocurrencies into its structure. However, on July 14, a letter from the corporation to officials of the European Commission was published in the media, where PayPal admitted that it is actively developing applications using cryptocurrencies.
The number of PayPal users worldwide exceeds 300 million people, and the company operates in Europe thanks to its banking and payment services license obtained in Luxembourg. In total, the PayPal payment service is represented in 31 European countries, where the company serves 95 million merchants and retail consumers. It is worth noting that PayPal, along with Visa and Mastercard, was previously part of the Swiss Libra Association, which is implementing Facebook’s crypto project to launch the Libra stablecoin.
The fact that PayPal is developing a roadmap for integrating its own payment crypto services is also clearly demonstrated by the announcement of the recruitment of members of the blockchain technology research team, which requires a senior research engineer. This specialist will be responsible for “development, creation and maintenance of key crypto products / services that will be focused on increasing the efficiency and scale of services provided by PayPal.” Information about the open vacancy appeared at the end of June.
PayPal does not deny its interest in the cryptosphere, but has not yet confirmed information about the development of certain crypto applications or services, for example, based on the Venmo mobile application, which is affiliated with the payment giant.

Who will be the leader in this race?

Nevertheless, crypto market players themselves are actively looking for ways to integrate with PayPal. This is illustrated by the example of blockchain company Pundi X, which integrated PayPal support for its Xpos merchant device on July 1.
Another player in the crypto industry, the fintech company Ripple, has not only supported the classic payment operator MoneyGram by buying 10% of its share capital and investing a total of $50 million, but continues to invest in the integration of cryptocurrencies into this service. Following the results of the second quarter, Ripple transferred $15.1 million to MoneyGram. It is curious that in June another payment operator, Western Union, became interested in the innovative successes of MoneyGram, which is considering buying a competitor. It is worth noting that back in January this year, experts from Credit Suisse Bank published a report in which they noted Western Union’s interest in blockchain technology and Ripple’s payment innovations.
The competition for the integration of cryptocurrencies into the services of payment operators is becoming more and more intense. And one of the main participants in this race was the People’s Bank of China with a digital yuan project. At the same time, in January, even before the aggravation of relations between the United States and China, American PayPal became the first foreign payment operator to officially enter the Chinese market after acquiring a local player GoPay.

The next development step is neobanks

Meanwhile, a number of fintech startups are engaged in the integration of cryptocurrencies into financial services, which can potentially challenge all of the above organizations, including the People’s Bank of China with its digital yuan.
Jack Dorsey’s Square company was able to receive revenue from operations with bitcoins in the amount of $306 million in the first quarter of this year. This cryptocurrency service was launched back in 2018, but only in 2020 saw a significant increase in financial indicators. At the same time, since March, through the Square Financial Services division, Jack Dorsey’s company has been able to provide services as a digital bank.
Another fintech giant, Revolut US, with the support of crypto company Paxos, began offering cryptocurrency trading services in all US states on July 15, with the exception of Tennessee. Curiously, traditional financial service providers are also interested in a new partnership with the cryptocurrency “unicorn”. So, on June 20, the international company Revolut announced that it was integrating American Express services for its customers.
In the case of Square, Robinhood and Revolut, this is not just about trading services, which are provided by various crypto exchanges. After all, all these companies are de facto neobanks — digital financial organizations that have every opportunity to integrate cryptocurrencies into their services, thanks to various partnerships. And the range of possibilities of such neobanks is much higher than that of traditional payment giants.
That is why in the near future we will witness how Visa, Mastercard and PayPal will actively explore the possibilities of buying or investing in a ready-made cryptocurrency infrastructure. These corporations are entering the crypto world, as it is increasingly becoming a matter of their survival in the rapidly changing global financial system.

Blockchain in the Public Sector: Webcast Insights

Blockchain in the Public Sector: Webcast Insights

This article provides a summary of the insights provided during Block.co’s 4th Live Webcast on the topic of Digital Transformation Of The Public Sector & The Upcoming Legislation Of Blockchain Technology In Cyprus.
Adoption of Blockchain and other disruptive technologies has flourished particularly in smaller nations that represent interesting hubs where innovations are more easily tested and applied. With blockchain in Public Sector, we’ve already experienced the commitment of small countries like Switzerland, Malta, Singapore, and Cyprus more recently. In just a few years, the small island in the Mediterranean known for tourism and offshore bank accounts has become a desirable fintech jurisdiction for investors and global businesses, due to the vivid interest of the Cypriot government towards new technologies, blockchain and AI imprimis.
With a highly favorable tax environment and the financial incentives available, Cyprus is shining as a hotspot for blockchain businesses and entrepreneurs from all over the world. In 2018 a Declaration was signed by EU member states to promote blockchain in public sector use across its members. By that time, Cyprus had already expressed interest in the technology with a series of initiatives. Cyprus’s partnership with Singapore-based blockchain platform VeChain was sealed to push forward the development and adoption of the technology. In addition, the Cyprus Blockchain Association was created while the University of Nicosia was involved in the development of the technology by offering courses and Master’s degrees on blockchain and cryptocurrencies, and by also practically using blockchain technology to validate academic documentation through block.co.
The Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) launched a blockchain innovation hub with other organizations and associations to support the development and implementation of technologies that can facilitate administrative operations and improve citizens relations with authorities. In 2019, Cyprus’ cabinet published its National Strategy on Distributed Ledger Technologies in order to provide a platform for both public sector and private initiatives employing blockchain applications. With such an exciting background in mind, Block.co arranged its fourth webcast that was held on Tuesday 21st July at the presence of prominent guests, who are all helping the government of Cyprus, develop and adopt the disruptive technologies in its administrative, economic and legal activities.
How are corporates, governments, and citizens impacted by the changes in legislation?
Hosted by brilliant Christiana Aristidou, a Technology Lawyer and Digital Transformation Specialist, Block.co along with Cyprus’s Deputy Minister for Research, Innovation & Digital Policy, Mr. Kyriacos Kokkinos, and international Blockchain experts Jeff Bandman and Steve Tendon joined forces in the webcast to discuss the enormous potential of Blockchain technology in both the public and private sectors.
https://preview.redd.it/xf6z1l9jhsc51.png?width=3622&format=png&auto=webp&s=028263148491640a8f4ada34a323e833fca1836d
The guests’ common path into blockchain was the early and skeptical discovery of Bitcoin followed by years of research and a more in-depth understanding of the technology which led them to embrace it in different ways.
Jeff became interested in the legal implications and the regulatory framework that would arise with the technology. His firm Bandman Advisors has recently been appointed by the Cyprus Government to draft its legislation on Blockchain & DLT.
Steve was a software engineer who moved to a management consulting role and had founded TameFlow when he learned about technologies like Ethereum and how its smart contracts could be used in governance. He became a consultant for Malta to help the country benefit from blockchain adoption and gave a major contribution to the drafting of Malta’s National Strategy on Blockchain.
The Deputy Minister, Mr. Kokkinos is the person responsible for the design and implementation of Cyprus’s Blockchain and DLT strategy:
“We want to convert the innovation researching tools into pillars for our economy to encourage more prosperity for our society. Blockchain and DLT are essential for digital transformation, a key player in a globalized economy. In June 2019, the Council of Ministers of Cyprus approved a strategy for DLT and blockchain, and part of my job is to facilitate the detailed implementation through both technical and legal perspectives. Jeff Bandman has worked to help with the legal, I help with the strategic side.”
The strategy document indicates that “The Republic of Cyprus, in line with the European and global trends of change and progress, strives to create the right environment for enterprises, companies, services, and investments by adopting innovative practices and procedures.”
“We’re all closely monitoring discussions at the EU level -continues the Deputy Minister- in order to meet regulatory standards and we’re considering them for our strategy. We’re working on achieving maximum compatibility with the EU legislation and encouraging all members to arrange a deployment of blockchain in all fields.”
Governments have come to realize they must provide all tools available and needed for digital transformation in the public sector, to ultimately best serve its business communities and citizens alike. The intricacies of bureaucracy speed up the need for new technologies, and in the pandemic era, access to digitalization is proving crucial to meet future challenges especially in areas where blockchain can help like healthcare, supply chain, and digital identity implementation. Jeff believes that blockchain can start by keeping consistency between democracy and trust, through the transparency that it can provide. “For example tracing the origin of funds and their allocation, will facilitate trust which is the basis of a distributed and decentralized environment”.
https://preview.redd.it/aguf1jiohsc51.png?width=3622&format=png&auto=webp&s=77f256b1435380fed223334ceb65104cef755626
According to Steve: “Blockchain can be interesting from different perspectives and I also believe trust is crucial. While we normally trust governments and authorities to manage most of our public and private life, with blockchain we have the chance to take it all back and shift to a sovereign approach. Starting with your own identity, with healthcare records, licenses, voting, and so forth, self-sovereignty will identify who you are, not a government. We’ve started building SOV, a stablecoin that will soon be legal tender, detached from a central bank but built on the chain and established by the algorithm. For the first time, this new monetary policy will remove the discretionary power of central banks, something that was not even conceivable before blockchain. The power is back to the people”.
With the first upcoming legislation in Cyprus, Christiana asked Jeff if he could share what this new law will involve, and what will be regulated.
“We’ve been working very hard on drafting and evaluating the different perspectives. Most efforts and resources are being dedicated to a definition and classification of the different digital assets, to the legal certainty around smart contracts, and to protect vulnerable consumers. From a business perspective, we’re still evaluating company laws, how blockchain can assist the full operational process, which criteria will help mainstream adoption of blockchain in Cyprus”.
The results of the 2019 strategy plan were supposed to be released in April but the Covid-19 crisis has delayed the works and they’re now expected in September this year. “The lesson we can learn from pioneer Malta -informs us Steve, who played a pivotal role in shaping Malta’s blockchain reputation- is to set up the right expectation and find a balance between the level of ambition and what is practical. Malta became a blockchain island because it made efforts to regulate the technology, but the challenge is to make regulation fair and accessible to everybody, the community, and the professionals so that innovation is encouraged at all times.”
What will the future hold for Cyprus? Will it be the new blockchain island?
“We have a promising technology -continues Steve Tendon- and collaboration between countries should be encouraged in terms of legislation and regulations, and the EU should take a more active role. It’s not a competition but a collaboration between Malta, Cyprus, and other geographies where a regulatory framework that promotes innovation should reflect and embrace the changes that new technologies bring to a globalized world.”

At the risk of sounding like an uneducated fool, I need some help.

Allow me to preface this by saying I am new to the sub, and not familiar with the rules, so I apologise if I'm out of line. I'm also slightly techy but have absolutely no experience with owning, trading, or buying any cryptocurrencies at all. I'm also sure things like this have been asked a million times, but after some attempts I wasn't able to find quite what I was looking for, so here goes.
My wife's brother unfortunately passed in early 2017, about half a year before I met her. He had terminal cancer for a few years, and because he was in the military, he received quite a bit of money in his time left. With this money he did a number of things, one of which was a ~$9k PC build. It's a monster.
His parents are not tech savvy in the slightest, so though they held onto his computer, they use it for very basic stuff like browsing Facebook. A shame, I know. However, they know that he invested in Bitcoin. They know it was quite a bit of money he put into it, and this was around 2015 in case that helps determine the possible value of his coin.
Anyways, I've poked around his computer a bit and haven't been able to find anything. No text documents with related information, no Bitcoin-specific software. They're thinking of selling his computer, but before they do, is there any chance at all we'd be able to access what Bitcoin he may have had?
Google searches led me in the direction of specialists that can help you access it for a percentage of the findings, but that seems like a risky move. Any advice is appreciated!

ECDSA In Bitcoin

Digital signatures are considered the foundation of online sovereignty. The advent of public-key cryptography in 1976 paved the way for the creation of a global communications tool – the Internet, and a completely new form of money – Bitcoin. Although the fundamental properties of public-key cryptography have not changed much since then, dozens of different open-source digital signature schemes are now available to cryptographers.

How ECDSA was incorporated into Bitcoin

When Satoshi Nakamoto, a mystical founder of the first crypto, started working on Bitcoin, one of the key points was to select the signature schemes for an open and public financial system. The requirements were clear. An algorithm should have been widely used, understandable, safe enough, easy, and, what is more important, open-sourced.
Of all the options available at that time, he chose the one that met these criteria: Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm, or ECDSA.
At that time, native support for ECDSA was provided in OpenSSL, an open set of encryption tools developed by experienced cipher banks in order to increase the confidentiality of online communications. Compared to other popular schemes, ECDSA had such advantages as:
These are extremely useful features for digital money. At the same time, it provides a proportional level of security: for example, a 256-bit ECDSA key has the same level of security as a 3072-bit RSA key (Rivest, Shamir и Adleman) with a significantly smaller key size.

Basic principles of ECDSA

ECDSA is a process that uses elliptic curves and finite fields to “sign” data in such a way that third parties can easily verify the authenticity of the signature, but the signer himself reserves the exclusive opportunity to create signatures. In the case of Bitcoin, the “data” that is signed is a transaction that transfers ownership of bitcoins.
ECDSA has two separate procedures for signing and verifying. Each procedure is an algorithm consisting of several arithmetic operations. The signature algorithm uses the private key, and the verification algorithm uses only the public key.
To use ECDSA, such protocol as Bitcoin must fix a set of parameters for the elliptic curve and its finite field, so that all users of the protocol know and apply these parameters. Otherwise, everyone will solve their own equations, which will not converge with each other, and they will never agree on anything.
For all these parameters, Bitcoin uses very, very large (well, awesomely incredibly huge) numbers. It is important. In fact, all practical applications of ECDSA use huge numbers. After all, the security of this algorithm relies on the fact that these values are too large to pick up a key with a simple brute force. The 384-bit ECDSA key is considered safe enough for the NSA's most secretive government service (USA).

Replacement of ECDSA

Thanks to the hard work done by Peter Wuille (a famous cryptography specialist) and his colleagues on an improved elliptical curve called secp256k1, Bitcoin's ECDSA has become even faster and more efficient. However, ECDSA still has some shortcomings, which can serve as a sufficient basis for its complete replacement. After several years of research and experimentation, a new signature scheme was established to increase the confidentiality and efficiency of Bitcoin transactions: Schnorr's digital signature scheme.
Schnorr's signature takes the process of using “keys” to a new level. It takes only 64 bytes when it gets into the block, which reduces the space occupied by transactions by 4%. Since transactions with the Schnorr signature are the same size, this makes it possible to pre-calculate the total size of the part of the block that contains such signatures. A preliminary calculation of the block size is the key to its safe increase in the future.

Are smart contracts really that smart?

One of the most important elements of any transaction is trust. Each of the two parties involved in the conclusion of the agreement must be sure that the other party will fulfill its part of the contract. However, legal documents that ensure the security of transactions require examination and supervision of their compliance. The use of smart contracts will help to cope without intermediaries and facilitate the exchange of assets.

Smart Contract History

The principle of smart contracts was described by American cryptographer and programmer Nick Szabo in 1996 long before the development of blockchain technology. According to the concept of Szabo, smart contracts are digital protocols for transmitting information that use mathematical algorithms to automatically complete a transaction after meeting specified conditions and complete process control. This definition, which was way ahead of its time by more than ten years, remains accurate up to this day. However, in 1996 this concept could not be realized: at that time the necessary technologies did not exist, in particular, a distributed database.
In 2008, the first cryptocurrency – Bitcoin – appeared, it’s creation was based on revolutionary blockchain technology, which previously lacked a decentralized database. Bitcoin's blockchain does not allow setting conditions for a transaction in a new block since it contains only information about the transaction itself. Nevertheless, the development of technology served as an impetus for the development of smart contracts. Five years later, the Ethereum blockchain platform allowed the usage of smart contracts in practice. Today, plenty of platforms allow using smart contracts, but Ethereum remains one of the most popular.

How do smart contracts work?

Smart contracts are computer protocols or, more simply, a computer code that is accepted by all the parties.
Obligations of the parties are provided in a smart contract in the form of “if-then” (for example: “if Party A transfers money, then Party B transfers the rights to the apartment”). There can be two or more participants, and they can be individuals or businesses. Once these conditions are met, the smart contract independently performs the transaction and ensures that the agreement is followed.
Smart contracts allow exchanging money, goods, real estate, securities, and other assets. The contract is stored and repeated in a decentralized database, in which information cannot be falsified or deleted. At the same time, data encryption ensures the anonymity of the parties to the contract. A crucial feature of smart contracts is that they can only work with assets located in their digital ecosystem. The combination of the virtual and real worlds is considered one of the main difficulties in working with smart contracts. This is the reason why "oracles" exist – special programs that help computer protocols to obtain the necessary information from the real world.

Benefits of Smart Contracts

Disadvantages of Smart Contracts

Despite their huge potential, smart contracts also have their drawbacks:

Where can smart contracts be used?

Smart contracts can change different areas worldwide. We can distinguish several industries in which smart contracts will be used most effectively:
Individual contracts, of course, will not disappear, and legal guidance will always be required to prepare them, but it will now be coupled with the development of smart contracts that save time, open up new areas for clients, and create positive shifts in the market.

Fifty Years of Cypherpunk: History, Personalities, And Spread of its ideas

In this review, we tell how the ideas of cypherpunk were born, how they influenced cryptocurrencies, and modern technologies, who formed the basis and why its popularity these days has grown again.

From the early days to today: the chronology of key events of the cypherpunk

In the early 1970s, James Ellis of the UK Government Communications Center put forward the concept of public-key cryptography. In the early 1980s, small groups of hackers, mathematicians and cryptographers began working on the realization of this idea. One of them was an American cryptographer, Ph.D. David Chaum, who is sometimes called the godfather of cypherpunk. This new culture has proclaimed computer technology as a means of destroying state power and centralized management systems.Key figure among the cypherpunk of the 80s — Intel specialist Timothy C. May. His dream was to create a global system that allows anonymous exchange of information. He created the concept of the BlackNet system. In September 1988, May wrote The Crypto-Anarchist Manifesto: people themselves, without politicians, manage their lives, use cryptography, use digital currencies, and other decentralized tools. In 1989, David Chaum founded DigiCash an eCash digital money system with its CyberBucks and with the blind digital signature technology.Since 1992, Timothy May, John Gilmore (Electronic Frontier Foundation), and Eric Hughes (University of California) have begun holding secret meetings and regular PGP-encrypted mailing through anonymous remailer servers. And finally, in 1993 Eric Hughes published a fundamental document of the movement — А Cypherpunk's Manifesto. The importance of confidentiality, anonymous transactions, cryptographic protection — all these ideas were subsequently implemented in cryptocurrencies. The term "cypherpunk" was first used by hacker and programmer Jude Milhon to a group of crypto-anarchists.In 1995, Julian Assange, the creator of WikiLeaks, published his first post in cypherpunk mailing. In 1996, John Young and Deborah Natsios created the Cryptome, which published data related to security, privacy, freedom, cryptography. It is here that subsequently will be published data from the famous Edward Snowden. In 1997, cryptographer Dr. Adam Back (you know him as CEO of Blockstream) created Hashcash, a distributed anti-spam mechanism. In 1998, computer engineer Wei Dai published two concepts for creating a b-money digital payment system:
In April 2001, Bram Cohen developed the BitTorrent protocol and application. In 2002, Paul Syverson, Roger Dingledine and Nick Mathewson presented the alpha version of the anonymity network named TOR Project. In 2004, cypherpunk Hal Finney created the Reusable Proof of Work (RPoW) algorithm. It was based on Adam Back's Hashcash but its drawback was centralization. In 2005, cryptographer Nick Szabo, who developed the concept of smart contracts in the 1990s, announced the creation of Bit Gold — a digital collectible and investment item.In October 2008, legendary Satoshi Nakamoto created the manifesto “Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System”, which refers to the works of the cypherpunk classics Adam Back and Wei Dai.In 2011, Ross William Ulbricht aka Dread Pirate Roberts created the Silk Road, the first major market for illegal goods and services on the darknet. In 2016, Julian Assange released the book "Cypherpunks: Freedom and the future of the Internet."At the beginning of 2018, Pavel Durov, the creator of Telegram, announced the launch of the TON multi-blockchain platform and mentioned his plans to launch TON ICO.In 2019, the Tor Project‌ introduced an open anti-censorship group.

Cypherpunk 2020

Plenty of services, products, and technologies were inspired by cypherpunk: Cryptocurrencies, HD (Hierarchical Deterministic) crypto wallets, Coin Mixers, ECDHM addresses, Privacy Coins. The ideas of distribution and anonymity were also implemented in the torrents and VPN. You can see the embodiment of cybersecurity ideas in the electronic signatures and protected messengers (Telegram, Signal, and many others). Why there were so many talks about cypherpunk this spring? In April 2020, Reddit users suggested that the letter from the famous cypherpunks mailing dated September 19, 1999, was written by Satoshi Nakamoto himself (or someone close to him). This letter is about the functioning of ecash. Anonymous (supposed Satoshi) talks about the "public double-spending database" and Wei Dai's b-money as a possible foundation for ecash. In addition, researchers of the mystery "Who is Satoshi Nakamoto?" periodically make some noise and discover the next "secret" about one or another legendary cypherpunks. So, in May 2020, Adam Back wrote in response to videos and new hype discussions that, despite some coincidences, he is not Satoshi.Other heroes of the scene are not idle too: in April 2020, David Chaum received $9.7 million during the presale of the confidential coin xx, created to encourage venture investors.

Conclusion

As you can see from the Satoshi Nakamoto's mentions and from the stories of DigiCash, Hashcash, RPoW, Bit Gold, the movement of cypherpunk influenced a lot the emergence of cryptocurrencies. As governments and corporations restrict freedom and interfere with confidentiality, cypherpunk ideas will periodically rise in popularity. And this confrontation will not end in the coming decades.

Numbers on the screen or how digital payment systems make the market fair?

Numbers on the screen or how digital payment systems make the market fair?

Continuing the trend of practicality characteristic of the XXI century, paper money is gradually disappearing from our lives, giving way to more practical digital storage. However, the digitized banking that we now use every day is still far from perfect. For starters, it is completely controlled by third parties. No one owns the numbers they see on the screen — control is entirely owned by third parties, such as banks.
Banks create money out of thin air, and credit is a prime example of this. Money is no longer printed when someone takes out an overdraft or mortgage-it is simply created out of nothing. Moreover, these banks charge disproportionately high fees for the services they provide, and these services are outdated and impractical today.
For example, it is impractical to pay a Commission to spend your money abroad, as it is impractical to wait a few days to verify the transfer of a small amount from You to your relative. All this makes no sense in the interconnected and instantaneous world in which We live today.
Thus, the monetary system has ceased to be practical, it is replaced by a higher form of value storage. In this particular case, it is replaced by a faster and safer system that eliminates expensive operations and gives control to the person.
https://i.redd.it/quc2bgmxotx41.gif
Money that you have in your Bank account can be considered a virtual currency since it does not have a physical form and exists only in the Bank book. If they lose the book, your money will simply disappear. These are just numbers that you see on the screen. The numbers are stored on the hard drives of Bank servers.

https://i.redd.it/4nvhydtzotx41.gif
Do you open a regular app and think you have money? They are just bytes of the computer system. Today’s global payment infrastructure moves money from one payment system to another through a series of internal Deposit transfers between financial institutions. Since these transfers occur in different systems with a low level of coordination, the calculation of funds is slow, often 3–5 days, capturing liquidity.

How do payments work?

When you make a money transfer, for example, from your Bank card to the Bank card of a friend or acquaintance, you see an instant transfer, so to speak, moving numbers from you to the Recipient. For the user, the transfer is carried out instantly, and the exchange of obligations between the participants of the process takes place within 3–7 days, the User does not know about it and hardly ever thinks about it.

https://preview.redd.it/rl4aai81ptx41.png?width=1400&format=png&auto=webp&s=cdfa10f0d68442aac84c14e3bae5a52e92651878
When you make a payment at a supermarket or any other point of sale, at the time of payment, information from the POS-terminal is sent to the acquiring Bank — then the acquiring Bank sends a request that passes through the payment system (Visa or MasterCard) and then transmitted to Your Bank, which confirms the operation. At this point, there is no write-off of funds. The funds are temporarily held, and the actual withdrawal will take place within a few days, the maximum processing time is up to 30 days.

Currency transactions and payments abroad

You may have noticed that after making a transaction in a different currency, such as yen or dirhams, or any other currency that differs from the currency of your account or buying an item abroad, the amount charged may differ from the amount that was reflected immediately after payment.

Why is this happening?

As soon As you have made a transaction with Your Bank card — the local Bank transfers the information to the payment system: Visa or MasterCard — the payment system converts the currency used into the billing currency.
Billing currency — the currency that will be used for payment with the payment system by your Bank that issued the card. For the US, the billing currency is the dollar, in Europe — the Euro.
The billing currency may also differ depending on the issuing Bank — the Bank that issued your debit card. For example, some banks use the billing currency — Euro when making payments with MasterCard cards in the United States, which will lead to additional costs when converting euros into dollars.
If the payment is in other currencies, the payment scheme will become more complicated and, accordingly, its cost will be more expensive. The transfer rate from one settlement currency to another is set by the payment system: Visa and MasterCard.
If the currency of your Bankcard is the same as the currency of the payment system, the payment will take place without additional operations. For example, You have a dollar card, you make a payment in dollars in the United States, and if you make a payment with a dollar card in Europe, your Bank will convert the amount at its exchange rate, which will lead to additional costs. There are exceptions, some European banks can use dollars for settlements, but this is more an exception than a rule.
Also, if, for example, you pay for purchases in China using a Bank card in euros, then double conversion is inevitable.
Thus, payment in dollars is universal all over the world, except for the European Union countries. The dollar is a global currency and is therefore often used for binding in international settlements.
Now we understand that due to differences in the account currency and the differences in the VISA or MasterCard payment system, additional conversions may occur, which will lead to additional bank fees. as a result, the actual payment amount will differ from the amount debited from your card.
In addition to paying for conversion in the payment system and paying for currency conversion in your Bank, some banks charge an additional fee for conducting a cross-border transaction.

Where do we lose money when making debit card payments?

https://i.redd.it/tykhrd56ptx41.gif
  1. Currency conversion by the payment system;
  2. Euro-Dollar, or in the case of processing payment via MasterCard in Turkey, Turkish lira-Euro and additional conversion on the side of the issuing Bank (your Bank) Euro — Dollar.
  3. Currency conversion by an acquiring bank;
  4. The difference between the exchange rate on the purchase date and the write-off date. We purchased at a rate of 0.91 euros per dollar, and the write-off occurred at a rate of 0.94 euros per dollar.
  5. A large number of currency conversions.
  6. The greater the number of them, the more we will lose when buying. For example, when paying in the UAE or China, buying a product for the local currency, we understand that the number of conversions increases several times.
If we touch on the topic of international translations, we will encounter additional nuances:
  • This is the payment processing time. International payments can be processed within 3–5 days, as mentioned above, which in our dynamic time — it interferes with the comfortable use of the system.
  • Restrictions on the amounts;
  • Possible requirements for certain documentation for payment confirmation;
  • Additional fees and commissions, sometimes hidden fees.
It is not always possible to make a transfer quickly and when necessary due to these restrictions. All this confirms the complexity of the operations and additional commissions that the user pays.

Сryptocurrency exchanges

And now back to the numbers on the screen, this topic affects not only banks but also centralized cryptocurrency exchanges:
  • You top up your Deposit on the exchange in cryptocurrency-then you use numbers inside the exchange, and real funds are most often stored on “cold storage” for which administrators or other responsible persons are responsible.
  • Only when you make a withdrawal from the exchange to your wallet-you are sent real funds (tokens or cryptocurrency).
The same applies to centralized applications and online services that deal with cryptocurrencies:
There are many services, both online and apps, that are centralized, regardless of what they will be called: Bitcoin wallet or bitcoin exchange. This means that when you add funds to an account in such a wallet, the funds are stored on the developecompany’s side. In simple words, all your funds are stored in the wallets of the system’s creators.
If you use a centralized app, you have a risk of losing funds. Although the application is called cryptocurrency, it does not affect its main principles — it is decentralization.
In other words, using systems where there is a Central authority, especially in the cryptocurrency market — the risk increases, so we recommend using decentralized systems for storing currency to reduce risks to a minimum.
Decentralization is the process of redistributing, dispersing functions, forces, power, people, or things from a Central location or governing body. Centralization is a condition in which the right to make the most important decisions remains with the highest levels of management.

Peer-to-peer payment systems

The opposite and standard of security and independence are peer-to-peer payment systems. Using the application-level network Protocol, clients running on multiple computers connect to form a peer-to-peer network.

https://preview.redd.it/ojcg4fz7ptx41.png?width=601&format=png&auto=webp&s=6cc81d1617b0cb64a3f5c7cc6d06a78354386f8c
There are no dedicated servers in such a network, and each node is both a client and performs server functions. In contrast to the client-server architecture, this organization allows you to maintain the network operability with any number and any combination of available nodes. All nodes are members of the network.

https://preview.redd.it/npttc3a9ptx41.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=0f2dee1e5b19436a847dca96e2b3b7f22b801b57
Tkeycoin is a decentralized peer-to-peer payment system based on p2p principles and the concept of electronic cash. P2P technology is a fairer means of mutual settlements between users and companies around the world. Modern payment systems are imperfect and may depend on the will of high-ranking officials.
The main goal of Tkeycoin is to create universal products that will make financial transactions more accessible, profitable and secure.

https://i.redd.it/gk6j0m9bptx41.gif

What do decentralized systems protect against?

Using decentralized tools, for example, a local Tkeycoin wallet or a Multi-currency blockchain tkeyspace wallet — Your funds belong only to You and only You can use them, which eliminates the risks of third-party bankruptcy, and such a decentralized architecture can also protect against natural disasters. Given that there is no central server that can be damaged in a natural disaster, the system can work even if there are 2 nodes.

https://i.redd.it/sb6i2ladptx41.gif
In addition to force majeure situations, you protect your funds from theft and any sanctions from third parties-in our time, this is very important. The owner of Tkeycoin does not need Bank branches, does not need additional verifications, and does not need permission to use, transfer, or even transport Tkeycoin. You can easily carry $1 million worth of Tkeycoin in your pocket and even in theory not know any troubles.

https://preview.redd.it/uvw9vfyeptx41.png?width=1400&format=png&auto=webp&s=14b89acca3568fdc5eb82d986aaa2710219ced91
Besides, it is extremely convenient and safe to store even multibillion-dollar capital in Tkeycoin. Imagine that you have a lot, a lot of money, and you need a safe place to store it. Where do you apply? Of course, the Swiss Bank, Yes, but it can easily freeze your accounts and you can easily lose your savings. In recent years, many banks are actively fighting against gray non-cash funds (including offshore ones), and every month more and more legal proceedings are organized on this basis.

https://preview.redd.it/vodiuq5gptx41.png?width=1400&format=png&auto=webp&s=31ab44da4431b0159ef1213db7e37c6fd92d5b0a
The fact is that serious money, for the most part, has a gray tinge, and only a tiny fraction of billions and millions are clean for the law. That is why their owners are often called to court, subjected to pressure, forced to leave the country, and so on. If your money is stored in Tkeycoin, you will not be subjected to such pressure and will avoid the lion’s share of troubles that usually accompany accounts with many zeros.
Using peer-to-peer systems — you will not be called by a Bank Manager and require documents or a fraudster who asks for Your card number and SMS for confirmation. This is simply not the case, wallets are encrypted, and using different addresses guarantees privacy.
As for fees for transfers, there are no Visa or Mastercard payment systems, as well as additional fees that we discussed above.

How are payments made in the Tkeycoin peer-to-peer payment system?

https://i.redd.it/9ftct10iptx41.gif
As soon as you sign a transaction, it is sent to the blockchain and the miners are engaged in its confirmation, for which they take a symbolic Commission. Let’s look at an example, the key rate is $1, the transfer fee will be 0.00001970 TKEY or 0.00000174 TKEY.
0.00001970 TKEY=$0.00001970 0.00000174 TKEY=$0.00000174
Accordingly, commissions are almost zero. In Europe, on average, you will pay $15–20 for a small Bank transfer.
For example, now sending 1 million dollars to BTC, You will pay a Commission in the area of ≈3–8 dollars. Just think, 1 million dollars, without restrictions, risks, and sanctions, and most importantly, the transaction will be the available day today, and you paid an average of ≈5 dollars for the transfer.

Transactions in the Tkeycoin blockchain

Now let’s touch on the topic of how a transaction in the blockchain goes. Once you have sent a transaction, it will be available to the Recipient. The transaction takes place instantly and the User sees not” numbers on the screen”, but real funds-cryptocurrency. This is very convenient when you make any transactions and the Recipient needs to make sure that the payment came.
In the full node-there is a choice of confirmation blocks — this is the amount after which you can use the received cryptocurrency. When sending, you can select the number of confirmations:
• 2 blocks≈10 minutes • 4 block≈40 minutes • 6 blocks≈60 minutes • 12 blocks≈120 minutes • 24 blocks≈4 hours • 48 blocks≈8 hours • 144 blocks≈24 hours • 504 blocks≈3 days • 1008 blocks≈7 days
As we can see, you can also set a weekly confirmation if necessary. The minimum recommended number is 3 blocks. by default, the full node (local wallet) has 6 blocks installed. The presence of this number of confirmations ensures that Your block will not be forged and will be accepted by the network.
Each new transaction that receives network approval is sent to mempool, where it waits for miners to confirm it. When a miner takes a transaction to include it in the next block, it automatically receives the first confirmation.

Generating blocks in the TKEY network

A block in the TKEY network is generated within 6–10 minutes. the network automatically corrects the complexity and time of block formation. Thousands of transactions or a single transaction can be placed in a block.

https://i.redd.it/f9d17k8uptx41.gif
Transactions work faster in the TKEYSPACE app because we have already enabled new algorithms and this is now the fastest and most convenient way to exchange various digital currencies.

Anyway, using the full node is also one of the safest ways to store and send Tkeycoin cryptocurrency, and most importantly, the full node stores a full copy of the entire blockchain, which benefits the network and provides protection from information forgery.
The more popular the project becomes, the more load is placed on the network itself. For example, 10,000 transactions passed in one block that was processed quickly, while the other 10–20 transactions in another block hung for a longer time, so temporary “pits” may appear. To deal with them, we are working on implementing additional chains-separate chains that are created for cross-transactions, which ensures fast payments under heavy load.
For the global system — we get a shipment around the world in 6–10 minutes, in cross-chains in 10 seconds. In comparison with the global payment system, which processes cross — border payments within 3–5 days, this is a huge advantage. If we add liquidity to this, we will get a perfect payment system.
https://preview.redd.it/2d0uu4gxptx41.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=ae5f2f0bc8b7c7dedd1814eb32e97092a6330c3a
Also, you should not forget that if you did not sync with the network and sent a transaction, the transaction may hang in its memory pool and you will have to perform several actions to solve this situation. Here we must understand that syncing with the network is an important point because if you have a connection failure in the Internet Bank, the payment will also not be processed. After all, it will not be sent to a specialist for confirmation.
If you are currently experiencing any delays with transactions, this is due to the transition of CPU mining to GPU, as soon as miners switch to new mining methods, the confirmation of blocks will be consistently fast.
In conclusion: blockchain is a new technology and many terms, concepts and how it all works are still difficult for many to understand and this is normal from innovation.
In many countries, the word cryptocurrency and blockchain are synonymous and no one wants to understand the reality, most people believe that if the blockchain, it means it is related to trading on the cryptocurrency exchange. No one thinks about the real usefulness of certain solutions that will become commonplace for Us in the future.
For example, the Internet banking system dates back to the ’80s of the last century, when the Home Banking system was created in the United States. This system allowed depositors to check their accounts by connecting to the Bank’s computer via their phone. In the future, as the Internet and Internet technologies develop, banks are beginning to introduce systems that allow depositors to get information about their accounts via the Internet. For the first time, the service of transferring funds from accounts was introduced in 1994 in the United States by the Stanford Federal Credit Union, and in 1995 the first virtual Bank was created — Security First Network Bank. But, to the disappointment of the founders of the project, it failed because of strong distrust from potential customers, who, at that time, did not trust such an innovation.
Only in 2001, Bank of America became the first among all banks that provide e-banking services, the whole user base for this service exceeded 2 million customers. At that time, this figure was about 20 % of all Bank customers. And in October of the same year, 2001, and the same Bank of America took the bar in 3 million money transfers made using online banking services for a total amount of more than 1 billion US dollars. Currently, in Western Europe and America, more than 50% of the entire adult population uses e-banking services, and this figure reaches 90% among adult Internet users.
Life changes, and in the bustle of everyday work — we do not even notice how quickly all processes change.
We are experiencing a technological revolution that is inevitable.

Webcast Insights -Blockchain for the Legal Industry: How Is the Coronavirus Crisis Making Adoption More Imminent?
Notoriously, the legal industry has always been slow at following technology innovations and adjusting to up to date digitally performed processes. By tracing the different steps of the legal industry evolution, we find that Kleroterion was a sophisticated innovative system used in ancient Athens that allowed citizens to participate in the lawmaking process by a random selection of jurors, as a way to circumvent manipulation and corruption of the system. Modern justice systems, established in the 17th and 18th centuries, provided regulations for the new industrial and economic development. However, with the start of the 21st century, they began to show their limits mostly within their structure built on papers.
The advent of the internet further highlighted these cracks, even though there have been signs more recently that times may be mature for disruptive technologies to finally enter the legal space too. The EU and its member states like Estonia, along with the US, Australia, China, have been pioneers in developing advanced Information Technology systems that led to the creation of an e-justice structure. They paved the way to other countries to embrace Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence, and the Internet of Things, which are now identified as the best technologies enabling a more efficient, secure, and faster legal system worldwide. In Estonia, e-filing was first considered back in 2005 and since then it’s been developed to become a central point for the exchange of information between authorities, from the police to prosecution offices, courts, prisons, tax and customs board, lawyers and citizens. Thus saving money and time by reducing the entanglements of bureaucracy.

In Canada, the cases of British Columbia and Ontario set as examples for exploring the electronic documentation system as opposed to paper, already back in 1996. Initially, it brought to little implementation due to the high costs, scaling, and complexity of the matter at the time. It was only in 2009 that Ontario’s Ministry of the Attorney General approved $10 million in funding to create a system intended to permit enhanced functionality such as e-document management, court scheduling, financial and automated workflow capabilities, and the introduction of online services to the public.
British Columbia’s case was more straightforward than Ontario. In the early 2000s, the Canadian Court Administrative Technology Suite drafted a program to integrate a system of connection of e-documents between law offices, the registry, the judicial, and the courtroom. It would include e-Courtrooms, provided they had implemented e-court files and links to the civil and criminal court information systems.
In the last couple of years, along with electronic improvements to the legal system, countries have looked at ways to use blockchain smart contracts in disputes, ownership of intellectual property, and any time of the agreement, to save money and time while offering more reliable and secure processes.
In the first webcast around blockchain technology, its impact on the world and the benefits it may bring to society, Block.co CEO Alexis Nicolaou discussed the legal industry and its reaction to the current coronavirus crisis with two prominent guests, legal practitioners Christiana Aristidou and Yiannos Georgiades.
Both members of the Cyprus Bar Association (and the Cyprus Blockchain Association), Christiana Aristidou has her own legal practice as Christiana Aristodou LLC, she is the Co-founder and Vice President of the Cyprus Blockchain Association, an International Business and Technology Lawyer and an ISO/TC 307 Blockchain Committee National Delegate. Yiannos Georgiades is a Commercial and Corporate Lawyer, also the founding partner of Georgiades & Associates. Yiannos is also a member of the Law Society in the UK as a European Registered Lawyer and President of the Cyprus Chapter of the European Court of Arbitration and Mediation for commercial disputes (CEAM).
Christiana was first introduced to Bitcoin while studying for a degree in technology law at the Queen’s Mary University of London in 2009. “The white paper was given to us by our professors for study,” recalls Christiana. “The fact that it had just been invented made me more curious about it. When Ethereum and its smart contracts were launched in 2014, I realized the tech could have a real disruptive nature, especially with regards to trust. As lawyers, we base legal services on trust. Then, you can imagine how relevant this tech had become for me”.
Nowadays, blockchain is in 2020 top tech trends and the first of LinkedIn’s most in-demand hard skills for 2020. “Compound annual spending growth for blockchain is established in the range of 62% during the years from 2018 to 2023, led by the banking industry followed by manufacturing, process manufacturing, and professional services -continues Christiana- Why these industries? Because they are distinctively transactional industries and blockchain, of course, disrupts transactional businesses”.
“In relation to the current Covid-19 situation, the first semester of 2020 has revealed a strong increase in the use of the technology, therefore it may have contributed to its adoption but its growth this year was already predicted, regardless of the crisis ”.
Coronavirus has promoted the necessity for companies to further investigate digital work to satisfy future demand for a remote working style.
How could the judicial system become more efficient with the adoption of advanced technologies?
Yiannos believes that “Due to the current restrictions everyone rushed to use the existing technology. Those who already used it did not have a problem in adapting, the others just realized how important and urgent it has become to be more digitized.
Introducing e-justice in our lives will reduce costs, time, it will safeguard security, establish transparency, and the authenticity of transactions. We can also reduce the disputes by introducing e-justice together with blockchain through smart contracts”.

https://preview.redd.it/bjqkmor7bg451.jpg?width=700&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0552b631a7f23351a2ab5be5fcaa43380406242e
In line with the progress made within the EU e-justice system, Cyprus Minister of Justice, Mr. George Savvides, wants to introduce e-justice in the frame of other reforms, supported by Deputy Minister of Research and Innovation Mr. Kyriakos Kokkinos.
Meanwhile, in China, three provinces have introduced blockchain within their judicial system highlighting the reduction of the carbon footprint as one of the benefits since physically traveling to the courts would be avoided.
China is a pioneer in the introduction of e-justice combined with blockchain. Some courts developed their own platforms and introduced the first internet court as an incubator to develop and implement it in the normal physical courts and using blockchain as a way to authenticate documents was so useful during the coronavirus crisis” — continues Yiannos.
Yiannos is also co-founder of the Metropole Alliance, the European association of lawyers.
“There is a strong collaboration among members to promote e-justice via education. Every member country can influence their own local authorities to implement e-justice as fast as possible. The EU has committed to speed adoption of the technologies for over a decade and as the world becomes more digitized, now is the time to implement them in the legal system also. Validation of documentation through blockchain would make processes faster and would be a real benefit for justice”.
Christiana believes that remote work is here to stay, it’s one of the crucial steps to business digital transformation and needs to be implemented strategically and seen as a part of a whole plan.
“Home office and cloud are not enough, we need to make sure that all systems allow us to stay connected in remote and not remote with instant communication, and be able to track work progress continuously. The ability to develop new leadership skills becomes another factor in times like these. Leaders should further improve the way they relate to their teams, they need to be able to identify talents, technical skills, the personalities of teams, they’re all important aspects of our projects.
Lawyers should also start learning how technologies like blockchain, AI, and IoT can improve our services. My advice is to partner with companies like Block.co because it helped me serve my clients more securely and efficiently. Before blockchain and Block.co, registering intellectual property was a lengthy, tedious, and tiresome process. Witnesses were needed, declarations of every movement were required and legal documentation ended up being kept in a fireproof safe corner of the office. I don’t do that anymore because Block.co simply gives me a hash and that way the intellectual property and the copyright owner are protected forever on the blockchain”.

https://preview.redd.it/oc3lajgfbg451.jpg?width=700&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cdcd37d7df906102b7daaa4a020ef8f89223eeb1
Yiannos reinforces the concept: “As a company, we are doing well due to another crisis that made me wiser. A few years ago we were victims of electronic fraud when our emails were hacked and attackers asked for money from our clients. One client alerted us whereas another did not and paid the money to the hackers. So I decided to improve our security and look at ways to tackle the issue digitally. We were also victims of a ransomware attack but it turned out to make me more aware and educated about security. That was the time I learned about bitcoin as those hackers wanted some BTC to unlock our server”.
While full implementation of blockchain in the legal system is still regarded with skepticism by many lawyers that believe it will take some of their work away, Yiannos reckons it will actually be an opportunity to access new and increased streams of revenues. “Lawyers can easily generate money by learning how to transform normal contracts and codify them into smart contracts” while Christiana points out that “In a blockchain-based future, enabled by the Internet of Value, lawyers will be service providers on a programmable society infrastructure”.

Not a question, this is a write-up for any trans girls living in Auckland, New Zealand since when I was looking online last year I couldn't find any info

(EDIT: I AM STILL ACTIVE & ABLE TO ANSWER QUESTIONS. I know a shit-ton more than I did 5 months ago and if I don't know something I can ask on the Gender Bridge or Trans and Intersex NZ FB groups for you. idk if this post is archived but you can DM me and I'll respond & then add it to this post)
(Update 25 July 2020: Lena's HRT got through customs - only two people incl. me have ordered so far and both got through today - took 2 months. Payment is via sendmoney24.com)
(Update 26 July 2020: I got progesterone, scroll down for details)
so this is my experience, with as many details I can remember. i am a binary(ish?) trans woman, so obviously my experience will be different but they're apparently really good with gender diverse & non-binary folks too. I was also over 18 when I realised I was trans so if you're younger it's probably going to be very different.
anyway this is where I'm at right now. I'm planning on switching to progynova, taking 4mg divided up through the day to start off with, and switching to a private provider. list here: https://genderminorities.com/database/medical-surgical/transgender-healthcare-providers/
on the off chance someone else living in nz looks up what the process for hrt is like in new zealand i hope this helped & i can answer any other questions
edit: 15 june update with info I've collected together
Progynova dose: I've been on progynova for like...4 months now. Got my dose increased to 6mg instead of 4 with absolutely no issue, didn't have to pay anything. Since I was also on boron it was more like 9mg? or 10mg? Dr Oliphant wrote a paper on trans healthcare that suggested going above this is unnecessary so I'm imagining I'll get resistance if I try to push the dose higher, but I'm planning on asking since there's no harm.
Switching to sublingual: I switched to sublingual 5 days ago (and I should've done it earlier, my boobs were stuck at tanner 3.5 for a while). 1mg at 8am, 12pm, 4pm, 7pm, then oral at 10pm since I cbf. Someone recommended to crush them into powder but I found that unnecessary. Split them in two and it takes five. Pill cutters from Aliexpress are less than $4, they're a life-saver. Once you suck off the coating, they dissolve completely under your tongue in 14 minutes. The first time I did it, I swallowed a lot but it was a learnable skill and the longer you avoid swallowing the easier it becomes, what I do now is: swill water around in my mouth for 30 seconds to stop saliva production, don't put anything in and try to stop swallowing reflexively for 2-3 mins which means you'll get the reflexive swallowing over and done with, and then put the pill in and start doing ocused in-out deep breathing (I'm sure there are more tips, look up "how to stop reflexive swallow"). Since I got diagnosed with ADHD ritalin has made this 100x easier for some reason, could be partly salivation inhibition as a side effect, could be better focus and self-control. Maybe neurotypical people find this whole thing much easier.
Overall changes: Okay I'm getting
Boron: Obviously this is still experimental blah blah blah etc. etc., I got boron from iHerb like 4 months ago, I compared around 5-6 different sites with different shipping policies and a LOT of different brands and the cheapest per unit was [this](Now Foods, Boron, 3 mg, 250 Capsules) at 7.7c/capsule, realistically 23c a day (9mg was the point at which I got really noticeable breast tenderness w/o changing my e dose at all), currently it's Source Naturals Triple Boron since the other one is out of stock. I considered buying boron from Alibaba (USD$23/kg) which is literally a thousand times cheaper but that requires talking to people and negotiating and shit. Maybe a long-term option. If it goes well I will list the supplier I ordered from. EDIT: so according to this post, boron doesn't do much unless you're taking a lot of e already. check out their chart
Progesterone: So I'm on the Genderbridge FB group (really should've joined ages ago) and there are at least two people who have managed to get utrogestan prescriptions from their GPs. A few more with progesterone creams. My GP said go to the specialists and the clinic said no. So I'm going to find someone else and if that's not possible I'll try get progesterone creams since amazon4health says 90% of unauthorised pills get caught. Not sure about vials.
UPDATE ON PROGESTERONE: Oneroa Accident and medical ctr gives out progesterone. Make sure to speak to Dr Michael karetai or Dr Isla Karetai or Dr Margaret Karetai. They do phone consultations, $70 if you're not registered and you're over 18, details on their site, much lower if you have a community services card.
Further update: Dr Margaret Karetai is the absolute best. If you have done the research, then she will trust you. Be clear about exactly what you want. She is very nice and I got utrogestan 200mg and bicalutamide 50mg!!!!!!!!!!
Note: pharmacy costs vary a lot, ask for your utrogestan prescription to be faxed to your nearest Chemist Warehouse (cheapest option) since it's not subsidised. The cost is here: https://www.chemistwarehouse.co.nz/CWH/media/Documents/CWNZPrescriptionPricelistNov2019.pdf right now it's $24.99 for a pack of 30 100mg pills. If you're doing Dr Powers' 200mg regimen this comes out to $600 a year. Kind of steep but this is what I'm doing until I've finished negotiating with Alibaba suppliers and getting the powder tested at a harm reduction place (forgot what it's called.)
If I find a good Chinese supplier, I will do a full write-up as another post, with instructions and prices & link it here.
DIY options
  1. According to Amazon4Health, 90% of pills don't get through Customs.
  2. You can get estrogen implants now, imported from Adelaide, there's at least one GP who does them. Ask on one of the trans FB groups. Comment for more details.
  3. You can get injections legit if you have a letter from your GP. Comment if you're interested, I can give you the whole procedure.
  4. The two non-prescription EV sources I've interacted with that ship to NZ are Lena and otokonoko. Otokonoko is pricier but their shipping is faster and they do refunds if it doesn't get through customs. However, they seem to only take bitcoin & other crypto at the moment which is tough since NZ's regulations make it difficult to get bitcoin, none of the major markets allow NZ. Might have changed since I last tried 6 months ago, though. DM me your results so I can add them here & expand our pool of collective knowledge

The bizarre story of my 63-year-old mother's dementia and how she was exploited by multiple criminals on Instagram

This is the story of how a normal 63-year-old woman who was suddenly stricken with dementia and financially exploited by criminals for upwards of $100,000. She now lives in a memory care facility that she can't afford and no one has been brought to justice.
My name is Scott and Sandy is my mother. I was her first child, born 38 years ago. I will always remember my mother as a highly intelligent being, an advocate, and a positive force of energy.
Over the past 2-3 years, my mother’s personality has changed. She became paranoid, negative, and exhibited odd behaviors. Other family members noticed this change, and like me, didn’t know how to approach it. I experienced her walking into a restaurant multiple times and having to sit at different tables before the right one was found. This was subtle, but there was an odd component of entitlement and lack of empathy for the wait staff and other customers we were cutting off. During another interaction 3 years ago, I asked her if she was going to take a trip to Belize where a friend of hers had a condo they offered. She had a concerning, nonsensical reply of, “No, because I’ve never been there.” Again very subtle, but stuck out as very odd coming from someone so intelligent. While riding in my car, she would be extremely paranoid, exhibiting verbal expressions of fear during very slow driving to accommodate her. Over a year ago, she asked me if it would be a good idea to send someone on Instagram money to mine Bitcoin for her. I was very shocked that she was even considering something that is clearly a scam, but chalked this up to her being naive about technology. Looking back on all this, it now makes sense knowing her diagnosis.
I think myself and other family members had written off all this previous behavior as a product of getting older or her possible unhappiness. This all changed earlier this year when we learned that she thought she was in a relationship with multiple Tom Cruises (yes, you read that right) and singer Luke Bryan, and had been sending money to people all over the world impersonating these celebrities on the internet. It was quite bewildering to be faced with such bizarre circumstances. I initially tried to talk to her to explain how these people aren’t real and how there are hundreds of predatory fake Instagram accounts posing as celebrities. This didn’t work, and she pushed myself and other people away who would question her activity.
As this narrative unraveled, we learned that she had been sending large amounts of money, including her claim of sending $20,000 to Tom Cruise that she has claimed is now owed to her. This prompted family members to take her to the Emergency Room. Nothing came out of that visit and her activity with the celebrity impersonators continued despite our efforts to convince her that she was being taken advantage of. We sent her a news article where a lady in Michigan was scammed out of $30,000 by a fake Tom Cruise, and sent a documentary on this exact phenomenon. These attempts didn’t get through to her.
We contacted law enforcement multiple times regarding this financial exploitation and nothing could be done because she would have to report it as a crime and she to this day doesn’t believe she has been wronged. We even have the names, addresses, and bank accounts of people she sent money to… law enforcement can’t do anything because she didn’t think it was a crime. She continued to wire money, take pictures of gift cards, and talk to a whole network of alleged criminals posing as celebrities. She maintained that she was going to marry Tom Cruise in England and she was going to work for an orphanage and live in a mansion with him that she was picking out. She was also claiming to be in a serious relationship with Luke Bryan, even though she claimed that he hacked her accounts at one point. I have a voicemail of her telling me about this and about how she isn’t going to be on Tom’s private jet, but just meet Tom in Hawaii. During one exchange when I was convincing her not to go on a trip with fake celebrities, she asked me if she could just go with Fabio, because she had seen him at a restaurant a couple years ago. I asked why she would think he would go with her and she said it was because they are the same age.
In June, she reached out to me for help with her homework for a class that required her to create a web page. I began helping her and asked her to write a paragraph on lavender. She went upstairs and came down with a blank flash drive, and I explained again that I simply needed a paragraph. This repeated 4 times until she finally wrote the paragraph. This was a stark contrast to her career where she wrote letters, agendas, budget documents, and even a book in her spare time.
At this point, I finally accepted that whatever she was going through was extremely serious and something I wasn’t qualified for or successful in helping with despite multiple efforts. Doing research, I came across the Thurston County Behavior Health Crisis Line and reached out to see if a designated crisis responder could give advice. After speaking with them, they determined that they would need to detain her. This was in early July.
She was released after several days, and nothing beneficial came from this detainment in terms of a diagnosis or plan to keep her safe. She was immediately back and talking with the fake celebrities. I agreed to help her get a new Gmail account so they couldn’t get back to contacting her and this was immediately compromised by her emailing the fake celebrities.
Myself, friends, and family have tried desperately to help her on so many fronts. We convinced her to get a new phone and that was immediately compromised. She was detained again in late July, and again released with no real outcome. The positive aspect of this second detainment was a visit by a family friend and ex-supervisor, a neurologist coincidentally. He was able to talk to her and assist us in getting her the medical attention needed. He maintained that this was likely dementia, what we had all been fearing.
In August of 2019, my mother was taken to see a neurology specialist at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle. Our fears of frontotemporal dementia were confirmed when Dr. Isenberg diagnosed her and deemed her to require 24/7 supervision and a guardian for financial and medical oversight. Her condition appeared to further deteriorate in late August as we learned she was having hallucinations of the celebrities and family members and was contacting us for help when they “wouldn’t wake up”.
In late August my mother drove by herself and showed up at McMenamin’s Kalama Harbor Lodge and thought that she had driven down in her car with my sister and celebrity singer Luke Bryan. When she showed up, she asked what room her husband was in, even though he was not there. She also was texting other friends and family and asking them when they were showing up. The front desk staff were severely concerned and Kalama Police and a local DCR did a welfare check.
My mother was detained for a third time in September as she was trying to leave on a fictitious concert tour with Tom Cruise and Luke Bryan. She had her passport and bags packed, and the sheriff found her in her vehicle. She was detained for weeks at St. Peters Hospital in Olympia and finally placed in a memory care facility.
Now that the courts have appointed her a financial guardian, we have learned that the financial devastation is so pervasive that she had let 3 life insurance policies lapse, took on credit card debt, and spent all her resources. We think the financial devastation might be in excess of $500,000 if you include the lapsed life insurance policies. She is now unable to afford to live in the facility she resides in because like most facilities, they require private pay for 9-24 months until they will just take Medicaid, and these places can be up to $6000 per month. And, you can’t apply for Medicaid unless your resources are basically gone. So, it’s a very tenuous and unfortunate situation.
Frontotemporal dementia has caused my mother to become a very vulnerable person with the sensibilities of child. She was exploited by multiple alleged criminals who took the resources she now desperately needs to have appropriate care until this terminal disease takes her life. She is recently fell and broke her arm, as the disease is presenting elements of Parkinsonism, beyond the stark cognitive disability. I hope that you will be able to help even a little, but I also hope this raises awareness about dementia and the rampant financial exploitation that occurs on social media.

This story is about my mother. I was her first child.
Doing research, I came across the County Behavior Health Crisis Line and reached out to see if a designated crisis responder could give advice.
In August of 2019, my mother was taken to see a neurology specialist in Seattle. Our fears of frontotemporal dementia were confirmed when the doctor diagnosed her and deemed her to require 24/7 supervision and a guardian for financial and medical oversight. Her condition appeared to further deteriorate in late August as we learned she was having hallucinations of the celebrities and family members and was contacting us for help when they “wouldn’t wake up”.
In late August my mother drove by herself and showed up at a lodge 80 miles away from her home and thought that she had driven down in her car with my sister and celebrity country music singer Luke Bryan. When she showed up, she asked what room her husband was in, even though he was not there. She also was texting other friends and family and asking them when they were showing up. The front desk staff were severely concerned and police and a local designated crisis responder did a welfare check.
My mother was detained for a third time in September as she was trying to leave on a fictitious concert tour with Tom and Luke. She had her passport and bags packed, and the sheriff found her in her vehicle. She was detained for weeks at a hospital and finally placed in a memory care facility.
Be vigilant about mental health with your family and friends.
Thanks for your consideration and help. We have setup a GoFundMe page if anyone has any ideas to get it more publicity - if at the very least to bring more awareness that this type of thing is happening. Thanks again.

Today was cold went to salvation army

I was homeless now possibly have to be homeless again due to job changes transition. I was cold as hell 20 degree weather I didn't know where to go and the times for clothing coat drives at churches and other locations. I went to a salvation army thrift store that was not easy to get to. First the bus driver that let me on free sent me off said we past the stop. So I walk and walk and I realized the driver was wrong and in the cold weather did 180 and walked back. Kept walking finally got to the street the place is on. Phone goes dead so i don't know if it's notth or south. So I asked people and they guide me to the wrong direction...
Again walked and walked and if your homeless walking sucks you got a heavy back pack your shoes sucks and your feet hurt. I got there asked the clerk if I could get a jacket or somethin and that I have no money. She said they had to be paid for... It's a stores after all and something that bothers me the way Salbs6 army handles donations.
I told her I'm really sorry I think your a nice lady your just doing you job. But it's cold I have to do what I have to do. I don't like to steal I wasn't raised like that but it's so cold I'm going to die and I have to do whatever to keep warm. I asked that I'm not good at stealing please turn a blind eye. She winked agreeing to what I was going to do and I love her for that. Instead of looking at name brands I'm looking for my size and down but there was none at I got the warmest I could get, scarf, hat, wish they had gloves. Put them on. Didn't even bother to be sneaky I even waved to the cameras and bowed my way of thanking and it's a Buddhist day too. The clothes made a big difference I was about to manage even without a down puffer. I will be back to give back to this lady she was great
Part 2
Little late to reply I actually did write one to thank you guys but I guess my fingers were so frozen and my phone kept dying. Im posting again because I need some help. I don't even expect it to happen but I will try anyways. It's not easy even here. If you want to scroll past my story which is actually just a half of what's going on I'll mark the paragraph with ***
I don't want to be homeless. I like to work. I worked in the suburbs of Chicago for 3 months. It was a pizza job but I did it well got a raise and promoted twice most recently to manager before I left the job for specific reasons. Pay was so low that even with 50+ hours a week with a little overtime I didn't make enough to enjoy a good life. My expenses was high without a car and really had to use my EBT. It's crazy how much I worked and I have nothing.
Now I'm back in Chicago at the worst time for someone who is bad at being a homeless "guy" I'm bad at should I say I can't beg. The words can't come out my mouth. I'm great at customer service tech support greeting people. But to ask for food and money I'm not sure why. I'm pretty sure people will help me if I told the truth. Because that's how I am.
I'm going to though some issues many that snowballed literally after Thanksgiving. With a little depression with my dad and grandma dead, family running off with their money, I have no family. The only thing I have to live for is unknown. I'm trying my best though.
So now I'm back in Chicago, trying to Polish up my resume to get me a job asap because it can take at least a week minimum to get something going... More to go realistic if I'm going can to IT work. I'm planning to shoot for something entry level get my foot in and work up.
I walked the streets going to restaurant to even a 7-11 got a possible part time gig. But I have a couple of good opportunities but I'm having a few problems
My trusty old Nexus 6p that I used many years the phone is crapping out on me. I want to get a temp Android throwaway or anything I can buy and return until i can get a better phone refurbished. Without a phone I'm dead not just because i can't make receive calls from my long line of girls trying to hmu but I need it to get around using GPS Uber if needed transit apps, and like indeed Glassdoor Reddit apps. I also need some communication.
I could use a month at a room which is roughly $500 in the North side area where I find pubic transit is better and not so hard on me when I try to ask for a free ride. Yes I ask. People hop turnstile im the oddball really that ask the attendant in the train booth along the blue line "hey I'm homeless you think I can get on free?" They just tell me just hop it.. I'm like really?" I never done it before I see everyone side do it but I'm not a money.. monkey see monkey do type. So on the buses the drivers are more... unfriendly but mostly let you go but they tell me to put something in. Like pretend to pay ? I don't even know myself. I just put in like a penny a dime. Even a peso I found. The pace and metra on the other hand we really kind to me when I had no money.
Anyways back to my situation. I'm writing long paragraphs that ppl will probably not read but it's ok. I been holding back on a lot. So bear with me.
******** What I need Priority is just a phone, unlimited data phone service the best I can get us the simple mobile 4g lte unlimited no throttle for $50 a month rent at a room, maybe a laptop if that could happen. I can do Uber I got a connect that this guy got me. He rents out cars for $200-250 I forget the extact amount. If I can do that I will drive literally as much as they will allow you to lol.
Im having issues with my medicaid or the "free" blue Cross blue shield "community" meaning your broke and you get the insurance that you have to wait months for a doctor months for a specialists. I have a doctor I pay just because before I was homeless I had to see him because my free Medicaid doctor retired suddenly. So seeing this guy and getting the medication I need for insomnia is quite important. I can't sleep without medication and without sleep without a room without communication I might as well take a chance at getting myself killed chucking gang signs around Chicago
So in the streets Im like so bad at being homeless. So I'll try here
Any change for the homeless? Can you buy me food I only had a couple packs of ramen noodles a day. Can you buy me a phone? I'm trying to get room so I can shower wash my clothes get ready for a interview can you got one I can use? Can you help pay for my Uber car?
I'm not even trying to be a leech. I want to pay you back. I want to use #borrow but I don't have though karma but I'm Buddhist and I know I got good karma now and on the way. I even take notes in who helped me and gave them free pizzas from work. I don't party I don't got a girl and I didn't have time to go have fun for 3 months just focused on my job and thst was it. Boring but I'm in the burbs.
I don't want a handout if you give me something you will get something back. Whether it's monetary , a thank you, something to show my appreciation. Not everyone is rich I get that. But I really could use a boost at this time. I'm not lazy I work hard way too hard. I'm decent with IT type work, and online marketing. I can manage restaurants, I could work sales. I think doing the Uber until I get the IT gig or both would be ideal. But the items I need.. the month room is really the minimum. I never ask for anything more than I need but that's how I am. To be realistic I will be a first paycheck to continue the 2nd month rent etc. If I can stability, ability to rest, stay warm not get sick, I can bounce back.
There's more to my story the stuff the drama that's going on now and past that I'm trying to deal with. Like stuff from being ripped off to getting punched by some dude that is possible mentally ill just random. Little problem under my eye I haven't got that checked out.
I'm glad I was able to write this without my phone dying. It's too the point where i have to hold it a certain way to keep it charging. It's so annoying because I got stuck in dangerous siuthatiions and areas when the battery was at 0.
I just got my cashapp, i got the debit card sitting at the po box I got in the suburbs, Bitcoin is good it's getting easier to buy, if your in Chicago IL meet with you anywhere. Unfortunately I don't have PayPal, didn't sign up for vemo and the other apps. I just know ppl been talking about cashapp allot. The best way really is whatever is convenient for you. I hate bothering people and nobody wants to help people when it's too much work or trouble. If you have a way that you DM me and I'll sign up get whatever. I'm getting worried and I don't have anything or anyone to fall back on.
Please help me. Thank you. If you can't it's ok too. I honestly don't think I will get any help because I never ask for help, especially like this. All I do is give give give give barely take. I have a blog for back when I first was homeless but will start updating it again. I hope it can help someone but I'm not a creative writer and I'm bad at pictures. But I want to document stuff because this is something thats going to be history once I bounce back.
